Micro Elements

What choices did you make in terms of the following in order to communicate your meaning to the audience(mode and address and persuasion)?

Media Language:

* Mise en scene

At AS I made the background look girly and simple to make it seem the same as the genre of mainstream pop. I also used ismple fonts and text to not attract the attention away from my artist in the middle of the magazine. I dressed my artist im the magazine differently to how she was dressed for the pictures on the front cover. However with both i used colours that werent too bold and they were girly to try and get her personality across to also show what genre of music she was producing. At A2 the genre of our music video was slow rock, we tried to show this through our music video and through our ancillary tasks. This was quite difficult however we did this by the clothes that our artist was wearing throught out the video which we chose quite simple clothes for this as we didnt want to attract too much attention to te outfit although this is an important part of the artists image, we also kept the hair and make up simple as we didnt want the audiance to think our artist is over the top and dramatic as the song we did was a slow meaningful song.

Post Production - AS

AS Coursework.
Photoshop-
  • Artworks and Effects
  • Magnetic Lasso Tool(to cut around pictures)
  • Horizontal type tool
  • Crop Tool
  • Cookie Cutter Tool
  • Blur Tool
  • Paint Bucket
  • Paint Brush
  • Magic Eraser Tool
  • Red Eye Removal Tool
  • Eye Dropper Tool
  • Hand Tool
  • Zoom Tool
Strengths for this piece of coursework was the ideas from preliminary to my final product, after researching and learning more things I had more creative ideas and was able to create a better piece of work. In my preliminary activity i only used the tools ; Magnetic lasso Tool, Font, Colour, Paint Bucket and Artworks and Effects, and showing above are the list of tools that were used when creating my drafts and final products. Weaknesses from this AS piece of coursework were learning how to use more tools on photoshop. I feel from my preliminary work to my drafts and final piece of work although I found photoshop difficult to use my work improved.

A2 Coursework.

The software that we used to edit our music video for this piece of coursework was Imovie. The type of tools we used were to either slow down the clips that we filmed or speed things up, to add text over our video to make it slightly more creative and putting the music over our video.
From the draft to the video we changed the editing software because we had problems with using Adobe premier elements therefore changed it to use Imovie which we found a lot easier and simpler to figure out what tools to use.
for the ancillary tasks we used photoshop at post production stage to edit what we had created from our drafts to make them better and fit better with our target audience and our artist.

Draft Ancillary Tasks:
  • Magnetic Lasso Tool
  • Red Eye Removal Tool
  • Font
  • Colour
  • Artworks and Effects
Final Ancillary Tasks:
  • Magnetic Lasso Tool
  • Red Eye Removal Tool
  • Font
  • Colour
  • Artworks and Effects
  • Eye Dropper Tool
  • Hand Tool
  • Zoom Tool
  • Horizontal type tool
  • Paint Bucket
  • Paint Brush
Progress From AS to A2
From our tasks in AS to A2 i believe i improved alot in my photoshop skills and think that even aspects such as the layout of the products i were making improved and i think that this is because i did more research and planning for my A2 pieces of work therefore i tried to use more conventions used in a real media product in my products to make them more realistic and more professional. With the music video we produced these were completely new skills that we learnt when editing as i had not tried this at my AS level, therefore i think that if i was to produce this piece of coursework again then i would be able to improve because that would be improving what i had previously done rather than completely learning something new.

Evaluations

I believe that my evaluation from AS to A2 improved alot, this was because it was set out in a much more professional way and i used more programs and ones that i had used before but at A2 i used them more confidently which helped me to produce better work. Programs that i used were;
AS- PowerPoint and typed writing.
A2- Animoto, Prezi and a typed answer with annotated pictures.
i think just listing these programs shows the improvements and progress from AS to A2 and the layout of how i set them visually showed more creativity which i would of learn and progressed with throughout both years of my media coursework.

Creativity Quotes

What is creativity?

The Thesaurus definition of creativity is:
Originality, imagination, inspiration, ingenuity, inventiveness, resourcefulness, creativeness, vision and innovation.

Task:

Taking each of these words in turn, apply them to the pieces of coursework you have created at AS and A2. Create a mind map for each of your coursework pieces, justifying how you have demonstrated any of them.

How creative do you think you've been?

What has prevented you from being more creative?

Has a set menu of tasks made it easier to be creative or would you havepreferred a free choice on what you could make? Were you pinneddown too much by the task, or did it free you up to be creative withinthe boundaries of the task?

Ideas and theories to help you "A process needed for problem solving...not a special gift enjoyed by a few buta common ability possessed by most people" (Jones 1993)

"The making of the new and the re arranging of the old" (Bentley 1997)

"Creativity results from the interaction of a system composed of threeelements: a culture that contains symbolic rules, a person who brings noveltyinto the symbolic domain, and a field of experts who recognise and validatethe innovation." (Csikszentmihalyi 1996)"There is no absolute judgement [on creativity] All judgements arecomparisons of one thing with another." (Donald Larning)Technology has taken all the creativity out of media production.

Creativity

What is Creativity?

Originality, imagination, inspiration, ingenuity, inventiveness, resourcefulness, creativeness, vision and innovation.

Inspiration
We used inspiration in both our AS coursework and our A2 coursework, both for the same research and planning section, however we just looked at different pieces of work to get different inspiration. For our AS coursework we mainly got our inspiration from photographs of celebritys from magazines and photoshoots, we also looked into different types of photoshop editing. However for our A2 coursework we looked more at music video and artists work for inspiration, we still did look at images to get ideas for fashion and make-up.

Imagination
We used our imagination in our AS coursework when decided on how to edit our photographs, where to take them and how to position everything on the page to make the layout look good and presentable. We used imagination in our A2 music video by deciding firstly on our storyboard after looking at reserach, we then used it again when deciding where to film and how to put it all together on editing software.

Originality
Originality was used in our AS coursework with certain aspects such as thinking of the titles for our magazines, it was also used again with the photos with deciding how to have them and where to take them. For our A2 coursework we used originality with thinking of the artists name and how we wanted her to be portayed to our target audiance.

A brief descripton of my coursework

At AS we were asked to produce a magazine cover, contents page and a double page spread. The target audiance for my work was teenage girls 13-19, the genre was mainstream music. For the evaluation we were asked seven questions, throughtout this whole process we used blogger to record all of our work.
At A2 we were asked to produce a music video of around three minutes long and also a digipak. The target audiance for this was audiances interested in soft rock music and our artist as a fashion icon. To evaluate our product we answered four questions using a couple of different technologys and again recorded this work on blogger since the beginning.
